SURVEYORS WARN OF GREEN DEAL PITFALLS

With the Government’s Green Deal officially launching on Monday 28th January – when the first Green Deal finance plans can be put in place, the Residential Property Surveyors Association (RPSA) has raised concerns over the finance mechanism and the future risks for conveyancers, estate agents and home buyers.

Chairman of the RPSA, Alan Milstein, said: “The Green Deal is a strong concept that could significantly help homeowners and tenants to reduce their energy consumption and as a result, reduce their fuel bills too. However, as the first Green Deal finance schemes come into place, our members have voiced a number of concerns about whether a Green Deal loan is actually the most cost effective route for many consumers, while highlighting a number of risks for the wider property profession”...

DISARRAY IN THE ENERGY ASSESSMENT MARKET

The Residential Property Surveyors Association (RPSA) has today called upon the Government to carry out an urgent investigation into the excessively high numbers of accredited and suspended Domestic Energy Assessors (DEA) in the market place.

In figures provided to a member of the Association under a Freedom of Information request, the Department for Communities & Local Government (CLG) has revealed that there are more than 10,000 registered DEAs, and that almost one in eight of these is currently suspended. Suspensions can occur because of a breach of the regulations such as failure to update a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record, or failing an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) audit due to a minor technical oversight...

VISIT TO THE NATIONAL SELF-BUILD AND RENOVATION CENTRE

The morning of Monday 3rd December was one of those times when just about every major motorway comprised a series of roadworks, accidents, congestion, and general mayhem. Notwithstanding deficiencies in the national transport infrastructure, however, 34 RPSA members made it to the National Self-Build and Renovation Centre in Swindon for what proved to be a rewarding and informative day...
